At ESP we have always encouraged our team to get experience in as many fields as possible whether that be lecturing on physiotherapy courses at university, working in pro-youth football, rugby or hockey to name but a few.
It is the same reason why we have a constant stream of physiotherapy students coming from Queen Margaret University throughout the year, to create a positive environment of learning and quality care.
Recently Jesse and Rachel took annual leave to go and volunteer as Physiotherapists at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Both clinicians had a marvellous experience working in a number of sports from Track and Field, Olympic Weight Lifting and Boxing.
Asked about his time at the games Jesse had the following reflection;
“I found the my time during the Commonwealth Games truly rewarding. Birmingham had a wonderful buzz and put on a world class performance. Working with teams from all over the world and with other exceptional clinicians was a fantastic experience.
Being exposed to new sports was exciting and I particularly enjoyed covering the boxing semi-finals as the clinical team was excellent.
Other highlights include watching a number of weightlifting records being smashed in front of me and seeing the Australian Netball team come away with the Gold.”
Rachel also had a wonderful experience;
“I had an amazing time at the Commonwealth Games, working as part of the volunteer medical team in the Athletes Village polyclinic. It was an invaluable opportunity to work with so many athletes from different nations and deliver care during such a large scale event. I learnt a lot from this experience, developing new skills as well as working alongside a great group of physiotherapists and medical professionals.”
We are very proud of all our physiotherapists and team who strive to become the very best versions of themselves and boost their skills, and knowledge base.
