We recently attended a fantastic learning evening at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals, bringing together our team with two leading surgeons: Mr Matthew Brown, a hand and wrist specialist, and Mr Jonathan (Jonny) Cowie, a hip and knee specialist.
These events help our clinicians understand conditions better so we can care for you even more effectively.
What We Learned
Hand & Wrist Health – Mr Matthew Brown
Mr Brown shared practical advice on common hand and wrist problems, from arthritis, dupytrens, and carpal bone injuries. We learned about effective exercises, treatments that might help, and when it’s best to see a specialist or get a scan.
Hip & Knee Health – Mr Jonathan Cowie
Mr Cowie talked about degenerative hip and knee conditions and explained modern treatment options, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery. We also learned why weight loss is the best management for weight bearing joints, when physiotherapy can help, when scans are needed, and when referral to a surgeon is best.
Why This Matters to You
Events like this help our team:
- Spot problems earlier
- Recommend the right treatments or exercises
- Know when a specialist or scan is needed
- Give advice you can trust
- Build relationships with the best specialists
This means faster relief, better care, and more confidence in your treatment plan!
Thank You!
A huge thanks to Mr Matthew Brown and Mr Jonny Cowie for sharing their knowledge, and to Johanna Allan and the Spire Edinburgh Hospitals team for hosting such a smooth, enjoyable evening.
We’re always learning so we can provide the best care for our patients.
