Meet Ryan
Physiotherapist • Sports Scientist • Performance & Rehabilitation Specialist
Ryan has been involved in sport throughout his life, beginning his sporting journey in youth football as a goalkeeper. He played at a high level for clubs including Celtic and Falkirk, developing an early understanding of elite performance, discipline, and resilience.
His professional career has since spanned both applied sport and clinical practice. Ryan has worked within the sports science team at Stenhousemuir Football Club’s first team, while also supporting elite athletes with nutritional preparation for competition.
Sport, Fitness & Performance Background
Alongside his work in professional sport, Ryan has over 10 years’ experience as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor. He has delivered a wide range of LES MILLS classes and worked with individuals of all abilities to improve strength, performance, body composition, and long-term health.
This combination of elite sport exposure and hands-on coaching experience allows Ryan to bridge the gap between performance training and evidence-based rehabilitation.
Academic Pathway
Ryan’s academic journey began with an HND in Fitness, Health and Exercise, progressing to a BSc (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of the West of Scotland in 2018.
He then completed an MSc in Sports Science and Medicine at the University of Glasgow alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Nutrition in 2020. Building on this foundation, Ryan qualified as a Physiotherapist after completing an MSc in Physiotherapy at Queen Margaret University.
During his physiotherapy studies, Ryan further enhanced his clinical skillset through additional qualifications including sports massage, soft tissue techniques, mobilisation, and taping methods.
Clinical & NHS Experience
Following graduation, Ryan began his physiotherapy career within the NHS, working in community settings with patients presenting with neurological, respiratory, and orthopaedic conditions.
His work focused on restoring function, promoting independence, and supporting patients in their own homes. Ryan is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and helping individuals recover from injury and return to the activities they enjoy most.
Athletic Interests & Personal Performance
Outside of clinical practice, Ryan remains highly active and has participated in a wide range of sports including football, badminton, Jujitsu, and CrossFit. This broad sporting background gives him first-hand insight into the physical demands placed on the body across different disciplines.
He currently competes in HYROX events, half and full marathons, and road cycling events, continually challenging himself through endurance and hybrid fitness competitions. Looking ahead, Ryan plans to take on a triathlon or IRONMAN, reflecting his commitment to performance, resilience, and lifelong physical activity.
